Operated by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Newark Liberty International Airport is located 2 miles south of Newark, 16 miles southwest of New York City. The airport’s main runway is 3,353 metres in length and has a surface that is asphalt/concrete.
Newark Airport is one of the three main airports that serve New York City and the first airport in the area, established as it was as early as 1928. Undergoing significant expansion of its international air services over recent years, Newark Liberty International Airport finds itself providing many direct flights to and from destinations across the globe.
Driving Directions
Newark Liberty International Airport is remarkably easy to access, especially considering its proximity to New York City itself. There are four main routes to get to and from the airport, each quite straightforward and, importantly, not jammed with traffic.
Firstly US 1 and 9 runs parallel to both the Hudson River and Newark Bay going by the airport as part of it’s route. The exit for the airport is clearly signposted.
Option 2 is the New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 95, which runs, more or less from north to south through New Jersey, with exits 13A or 14 suitable for the airport.
Probably the most popular one for tourists is Interstate 78, which runs in and out of Manhattan. Clearly signed exits for the airport make it hard to miss.
More of a New Jersey option than New York City itself, Route 22 is the main road in the area, also providing an exit for the airport.
